We attended the event about “people with disability on the Agenda 2030” which took place at the Palacio de la Moncloa, last 20th April.
Francisco Trigueros Molina, president of FASOCIDE and Marina Martín, representative of the Deafblind Women Committee of the federation, attended this event scorted by our guide-interperters who made it accessible.
It was a very productive event, in which we were able to analyze the current situation and to know the first hand what is the plan to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities.
María Luisa Carcedo, Minister of Health, Consumer Affairs and Social Wealth, mentioned as achievement “to avoid inequality about the active and passive right to vote”.
We were able to listen to Luis Cayo, president of CERMI National, who highlithed that is very important that we people with disability take part of the solution.
Later, our Deafblind colleague Raquel Alba, consultant of the UTS in the ONCE Social Group, also highlighted the relevance and need of professional mediators and guide-interpreter in order to break down the barriers that affect Deafblind people.
The president of the Spanish Gonvernment, Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, Pedro Sánchez-Castejón, also said that they are willing to act, that disability can not be a burden in this country. He ended his speech mentioning San Francisco de Asis, who said “start by doing what is necessary, and then do what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible”.
We are happy to have been able to participate in this event and we hope that the situation of people with disabilities will gradually improve and that we will break down all the barriers that we are still struggling with.
