“My name is Gennet”, a true example of perseverance.

Solidarity Pass (Full amount fundraising to FASOCIDE) 4th April.

“I beat silence and darkness”. This could summarize the life experience of Gennet Corcuera, the first European Deafblind person who achieved a university degree. On April 5th,  the film will come to cinemas throughout Spain

The film is based on a true story and it tells the life of Gennet Corcuera, from her childhood before being abandoned in a reception center in Addis Ababa, in Ethiopia, until she  became the first Deafblind person who got a university degree in Europe. The film gathers her special memories, marked by her difficult process of integration and learning in a world where there was no place for people like her.

“Since I got to know the life story of Gennet in the media when she graduated, I knew it was a great story that deserved to be put on film,” Tobias said. “At the beginning it was meant to be a documentary film until I met Gennet. After many hours of conversation, knowing the story of her entire life, I realized that it could be approached as a large fiction project. I asked Gennet, because I wanted her to be the actress of the whole adult stage. I was surprised when she said yes. Her performance is impressive. “

It has been shot in Spain and Ethiopia, starring Gennet Corcuera, Miriam Díaz-Aroca, Ángela Molina, Miki Molina, Zewdu W. Mariam and Miguel Ángel Tobías himself. It has been produced by Acca Media and co-produced with TVE. Distribution of the film at cinemas will be provided by Versión Digital. It has the collaboration of Telefónica Foundation and Stories That Might be Told Foundation.
