On the 27th June as every year, we celebrate our International Day in which we claim that we are capable. We are able of having a family, to do a job or sport.
The event took place in the Sport Complex and Cultural of Once (Paseo de la Habana, 208) chaired by María Jesús Cañamares, a deafblind woman author of the book “Relatos y punto”. She is a good example that we are capable of achieving everything we want.
On the other hand, María de la O Clemente, Elisa Isabel Muñoz y Carlos Martínez presented their personal examples of inclusion in each area. To be mother, to run a business and to do extreme sports were some of the topics that our colleagues shared.
Also, the group “Babel Teatro” consisting of ten actors and actresses, eight of them with deafblindness, and two deaf people, shown their play “Más allá” (Beyond), as an example of cultural inclusion.
In the act participated some representatives of the three organising entities: the president of ASOCIDE Euskadi, Josu Domínguez, on behalf of the Spanish Federation of Associations of Deafblind People of Spain (FASOCIDE); the president of the Spanish Association of Families of People with Deafblindness (APASCIDE), Dolores Romero; and the president of Foundation ONCE for the Attention of people with Deafblindness (FOAPS), Andrés Ramos.
The vice-president of the General Counsel of ONCE, Imelda Fernández, opened the event and the managing director of Support Policies to Disability of the Ministry of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare. Jesús Celada.
It was a great day that we enjoyed all together our deafblind friends, the entities which support us every day and the media that help us to spread information about our collective and our disability. Once more, we want to make it clear to our society that we are capable!
