This year, as every year, we took part in the events organised by the EDbU. On this occasion, we celebrated the 6th Annual General Assembly and the 2nd Deafblind Youth Forum and the 3rd Deafblind Women’s Forum. This year these events took place in Budapest, Hungary, which coincided with the 25th anniversary of the Deafblind Association of Hungary.
As always, the General Assembly brought up relevant issues for the deafblind community across Europe, as all the work that has been done so far as well as strategic plans for the coming years.
We were able participate in the Youth and Women’s Forums as panellists. Marina Martín, representative of the FASOCIDE’s Women’s Committee gave a speech together with Raquel Alba, consultant of the UTS of the ONCE Social Group, about the current situation of the deafblind women in Spain. They both explained the fight and struggle for equality in Spain and what we are doing. They also explained how it is possible to reinforce the inclusion of the deafblind women and why we have to keep working on this field towards inclusion. Javier García Pajares, the representative of the FASOCIDE’s Youth Committee, told everyone about his personal career, his constant struggle and all the goals achieved until now; as well as the next project he has in mind about organising a Young deafblind camp at European level.
As usual, we came back to Spain with a strong desire of spending more time with our deafblind colleagues from all over Europe, sharing experiences and discussing about potential improvements; because this is rewarding and this promote our daily work.
We are looking forward to joining again next year in Croatia!
