On March 6, 2017, the needs of the Deafblind persons arrived at the Senate of Spain through the Commission of Health and Social Services.
For the first time, the Federation of Associations of Deafblind People of Spain, FASOCIDE, had the honor of appearing before the Commission of Health and Social Services of the Senate, carrying, in first person, the voice of the Deafblind people.
Francisco Javier Trigueros Molina, as president of FASOCIDE and Deafblind person, introduced to the senators the features of the Deafblind people, explaining first-hand the communicative, mobility, access to information and social characteristics, and claiming the fundamental needs which must be covered, in order to reach the highest levels of equality with the rest of society.
He emphasized the importance of obtaining recognition at the legislative level, a specific Law recognizing deafblindness as a unique disability, and the creation of a census so as to guarantee their fundamental rights.
From FASOCIDE, we would like to thank the invitation, as well as the support received from all the parliamentary groups.
